Known as the patriarch of New Jersey’s shopping centers, Garden State Plaza was the state’s first regional retail complex. Though it debuted in 1957, Garden State Plaza has undergone several renovations and expansions and is now nearly 2 million square feet of retail space with five anchors and 285 specialty stores. It sits on 140 acres and is one of the 10 largest shopping centers in the nation. Location and
accessibility are two factors that have played a major role in the
success of Garden State Plaza. The
shopping center overlooks the intersection of Routes 4 and 17, the
busiest in Bergen County (New Jersey’s most populous and affluent
county) and one of the most traveled roads in New Jersey. To get to the mall, you
can travel by private vehicle, taxi or bus.
Several bus routes make regular stops at the Garden
State Plaza. All stores in
the Garden State Plaza mall range from moderate to upscale. The five anchors are
Macy’s, Nordstrom, JC Penney, Neiman Marcus and Lord & Taylor. In addition, the tenant
roster includes some of the best-known names in retailing such as
Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor,
Eddie Bauer, Walden Books, and Victoria's Secret.
Though there are several other malls in the area,
demand for tenant space has keep occupancy high, which helps the Garden
State Plaza mall stay on top of its game. If shopping
causes you to work up an appetite, Garden State Plaza has 46 different
dining options to offer. The
food court offers everything from Blimpie Sub and Salads to KFC Express
to South Philly Steak and Fries. But
if you are looking for something outside of the food court, you can
choose from Baskin Robbins, Neiman Marcus Rotunda, Nordstrom
Marketplace Café and more. Due to being
located in one of the few counties that still abides by the blue laws,
the Garden State Plaza mall is closed on Sundays. However, for the rest of
the week it maintains normal hours of operation.
Those hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 9:30 p.m. With Kohl's, Neiman Marcus, Sears, and Nordstrom. |
