Just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, 16 miles south of
O’Hare and 18 miles north of Midway Airports, sits Oakbrook Mall, the
nation’s largest outdoor shopping mall.
With over 160 shops, set amidst refreshing gardens and flowing
fountains, Oakbrook Mall is more than just a shopping center – it’s a
village unto itself. Just west of the city, Oakbrook Mall houses shopping
favorites such as Banana Republic, Chico’s, Kenneth Cole, Talbot’s,
and Mark Shale. Eat at one of
many restaurants enclosed in this miniature Eden, including Houlihan’s,
Maggiano’s (serving some of the best Italian food in the country), the
Corner Bakery (offering sandwiches and wraps for a lighter meal), and the
California Pizza Kitchen. For
something less formal, grab a bite at McDonald’s or Subway, or pick up
an iced coffee at the Nordstrom Café.
To satisfy a sweet tooth, stop by Mrs. Field’s Cookies and have a
giant cookie or two. Don’t miss the neighboring attractions, as long as you’re
visiting. Oakbrook Mall is
set amid several museums, like the Graue Mill & Museum, the Elmhurst
Art Museum, and the Elmhurst Historical Museum.
The Brookfield Zoo is also in the area. Oakbrook Mall also hosts several special events throughout
the year. Take a look at the
restored pieces of art at the annual Father’s Day Classic Car Show, or
peruse the grounds at the Oakbrook Center Landscape and Garden Show.
Oakbrook Mall also boasts two invitationals, the Craft Exhibition,
featuring over 150 craft artists, and the Fine Art Exhibition, featuring
over 175 musicians and artists. |
