Originally open in 1984 and expanded in 1994 to include over 250 shops, Crossgates Mall is the pride of the Albany area. The mall is located off Exit 24 of the New York State Thruway (I-87) at the base of the Adirondack Northway for easy access. Besides the food court favorites such as Arby's, Taco Bell, and Wendy's, the hungry shopper will also find plenty of options for a full service meal, including Houlihan's, Ruby Tuesday, and Johnny Rockets (a 50's style diner designed to feel like an old malt shop or burger joint).
Technical gurus will find their pleasure at Crossgates Mall, with gizmos and gadgets that will keep them busy for hours available at the likes of the Apple Store, Best Buy, and the Discovery Channel Store (also a great place to find unique gifts for that special person who seems to have everything).
For the kiddies, check out the Build-a-Bear Workshop, where you can pick out the design of your choice and build the perfect stuffed companion. On vacation and can't wait to get home to see the pictures you took on that sight-seeing tour? Stop off at the Ritz Camera One Hour Photo, and have the prints developed while you shop for souvenirs.
When you're ready to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of shopping, head to the Regal Cinemas Crossgates Mall 18 Theatre to see a flick (and munch some popcorn to replenish the energy you've expended in your shopping extravaganza). And never feel guilty about spending your money at this fine establishment – Crossgates Mall hosts a number of charity events, supporting such institutions as the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Hours are typically 10:00am to 9:30pm Monday through Saturday and 10:00am to 6:00pm on Sundays. Check with the mall for department store hours and holiday hours, as they may vary. Overall, Crossgates Mall offers a little something for everyone visiting or living in the Albany area.
