Dillards department stores are mostly in the South, but there are plenty of locations extending farther west. Dillards department stores started in the late 1930's in Nashville, and grew quickly as malls became popular. Dillards Department stores have now purchased Stix, some Dayton Hudson stores, some Macy's, Joske's, Cain Sloan, Higbee, and J.B. Ivey. The department store carries upscale brands and has a strong following because of their reasonable prices.
